Personal Learning Program for Faculty (PLP)
πŸ“…Exploratory Meeting: December 6th, 2022, from 11am - 12pm EST
The Program for Faculty Development is developing a structured approach for faculty career development and professional goal attainment - this initiative aims to develop a Personalized Learning Plan (PLP) that will support faculty across the FHS to meet their annual career and professional goals. The PLP will include individualized goal setting, mentorship and coaching, and alignment with professional certification requirements.

Please join us to explore what should, or could, be included in the Personalized Learning Plan to make it most useful to faculty and their school/department leaders.

Supporting Racialized Medical Learners in the Educational Environment
πŸ“…January 10, 2023 from 12-5 pm EST*
The Waterfront Banquet & Conference Centre
Through sharing our stories of racialization, and our journey to creating anti-racist support structures that prioritize the needs of learners, founders of the Racialized Residents at McMaster and the Black Physicians’ Association of Canada will work with attendees to develop strategies to better support their racialized learners with clear measures for program success, and an evidence-based grounding in differential attainment research.

Attendees will get hands-on experience in responding to instances of racialization in the medical training environment through structured reflections and small group discussions of real cases from the presenters' own experiences.

Communicating in an effective manner is a key skill for academic faculty, whether they be researchers, clinicians, or teachers. Many academic faculty, however, have never taken a formal course in effective communication and/or slide construction. The overall purpose of this workshop series is to help scaffold and develop individuals seeking specific skill development in core elements that will make them a better speaker. Want to learn more about what the program has to offer? Check out our new promo video!

In Case You Missed It...
Lies, Damned Lies, and Surveys: Designing Better Surveys for
Program Evaluation and Research, Pt. 3
Originally presented on December 9th, 2020.

Mark Twain famously expressed his disdain for statistics when he said, β€œ There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.” Beyond referencing his own difficulties with math, Twain was making the point that statistics can have persuasive power, even when used inappropriately. The same can be said of surveys - results from a poorly designed and poorly executed survey can have considerable persuasive power. Flawed survey results can send educators off searching for fixes to non-existent problems and fill the scientific literature with unsubstantiated knowledge claims that may never get fully corrected. This workshop introduces participants to a systematic, seven-step design process for creating high-quality surveys fit for program evaluation and research purposes. Learn more about the workshop, here.
